There is no place like home...

I woke up at 3 a.m., flew to Detroit yesterday morning and went straight to work. After several boring and sleepless meetings, I checked into my hotel. The receptionist cheerfully explained that she was upgrading my room "due to availability". When I went to my room, I discovered that it hadn't been cleaned. I soon discovered that it hadn't been vacated since I woke the occupant up while I was looking around the suite. He had remarkable restraint, and didn't even try to kill me. (If some strange guy just let himself into my hotel room my first thought would have been "Holy shit!", my second thought would have been "You had better defend yourself!!") Maybe the suit and tie made him think I wasn't an axe murderer but hey Ted Bundy looked like a nice guy.

After apologizing I went back downstairs and told the front desk what had happened. They quickly found me another room. I went into the room, checked to make sure I was the only occupant and turned on the television. To my surprise, the hotel gave me a "I am sorry for the inconvenience" gift. They gave me the gift of free porn. Apparently the porn channel was stuck on my TV. I could either watch the real porn channel or see the ghost images on the other channels. The situation was resolved this morning. (and I didn't even ask them to fix it.)

So if you are wondering what I did last night, here are a couple of movie reviews*.

Napoleon Dynamite - WTF, I really didn't get this movie. There was no acting, a story filled with absurd and uncomfortable situations, and yet I still liked it. Maybe I am to old to really understand this movie.

Sideways - The trailer makes me want to avoid this movie. Who wants to watch a depressed wine snob score with Virginia Madsen. Guess what, I did. It turns out the movie is like the bachelor party I always wanted but never had. I would have had trap shooting and rib joints instead of wine and golf, but you get my point. Getting my nose broken Sandra Oh style is why I didn't have a bachelor party. All in all a good movie.

Thanks to Steve in the City for the use of his DVD's during my travels. Now if he will only buy the Kill Bill Saga.
